In 2024, Dover Township formed a Road Safety Committee. This committee consists of elected officials from both Dover Township and Dover Borough, the Northern York County Regional Police Department, Township engineers, the York County Planning Commission, and the following Township employees: Manager, Public Works Director, Assistant Public Works Director, and Planning Director. The committee was established to create a Local Road Safety Plan.
On June 14, 2024, we implemented that plan, with the following vision statement: “To help all road users of Dover Township’s transportation system reach their destination safely.” The committee meets on a quarterly basis to identify emphasis areas. There were five emphasis areas identified in the plan, with specific locations also noted.
Over the past year, Dover Township has implemented a few improvements that were considered “low-hanging fruit.” The following are a few examples: larger/double signs, reflective striping on signposts, rapid-flashing mid-block crossings, and piano key thermoplastic crosswalks.
