York County Paper Recycling Options

We are reaching out to you today with options for your businesses and residents to recycle office paper and other paper products.  Your municipality is one of several in York County that falls under the mandate of PA Act 101.  Act 101 calls for all state recycling mandated municipalities to require by ordinance that businesses located within their jurisdiction recycle aluminum, corrugated paper and high-grade office paper.  In June of this year York County’s only single stream materials recovery facility owned by Penn Waste stopped accepting many paper products, including office paper, due to contamination issues.  Since that time many York County businesses and residents have been wondering where they can now recycle this material.

We have identified two local companies that are accepting office paper and other paper products for recycling.  They are not able to offer curbside services, but are providing drop-off opportunities.  They are only accepting certain paper materials and each has specific requirements and hours of acceptance.  Below are the specifics.

Continental Paper Grading, located at 3350 Concord Rd, York, PA  17402, will accept various paper grades from residents and businesses that were previously acceptable in single stream recycling before the June 2018 guideline changes.  Here are their requirements:

-Before bringing materials to their facility, ”white paper” (office paper, junk mail, newspaper, magazines catalogues, etc.) must be separated from “brown paper” (corrugated cardboard, empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, paperboard cereal boxes, tissue boxes, etc.)

-Books may also be recycled, but hard cover books must be separated from soft cover books.

-If recycling a large quantity of material, businesses and residents must call ahead at 717-885-7881.

– All residents and businesses delivering any amount of material must check in at the front office and will be directed from there.

-Continental Paper Grading will be accepting material from the public Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

-There is no outside drop-off container and absolutely no dumping is allowed.

Consolidated Scrap Resources, the 120 Hokes Mill Rd, York, PA 17404 location, will accept office paper and other paper grades from BUSINESSES ONLY.

-120 Hokes Mill Rd is the only York County Consolidated Scrap Resources location accepting paper products.

-Before delivering any materials, all businesses must call ahead at  717-843-0931 to make an appointment to deliver.
