Indoor Drop-In Programs at Nixon Park focused on Nature Play

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will host Nature Play Drop-In programs for kids on Fridays and Saturdays in January at the Nixon County Park Nature Center: January 17-18, and 24-25. Drop-in programs are perfect for busy families! Drop-in at any time during the program and stay for as long as you like! Hours for this program are: Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Dress up, use puppets, touch and feel with natural objects, explore with short scavenger hunts and be creative! Various play stations will be set up inside the nature center to explore.

No fee, no registration required.

Cabin fever hikes at Rocky Ridge County Park

Got the winter doldrums? Get out for a fun hike exploring the winter woods.

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting two Cabin Fever Hikes at Rocky Ridge County Park.  Dates are: Sunday, Jan. 19, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday, January 22, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.  Hikers will meet in the Hidden Laurel Picnic Area at the Pheasant Pavilion.

Hikers will explore what is happening this time of year in nature and learn how plants and animals prepare for the cold weather. After the hike, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies by the fire in an enclosed pavilion.

There is no fee for either hike. Please pre-register at 717-428-1961.

Watercolor Class for Beginners at Nixon Park

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will host a Watercolor Class for Beginners program at the Nixon County Park Nature Center on Sunday, January 26. Focus will be on landscapes. Hours for this program are 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Join wildlife artist Teanna Byerts for this introduction to basic watercolor techniques.  Practice painting skills in the Nature Center (indoors). All supplies provided.

$10 per participant. Class size is limited. Call 717-428-1961 to register.
