Wallace-Cross Mill Stream Study & Miller’s Heritage Day

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will host a Stream Study in the Old Mill Stream at Wallace-Cross Mill from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019.

Explore beneath the surface with Duane H. and Cindy P., Master Watershed Stewards, who will help you understand the life found in Rambo Run.  This high class trout stream is in a near pristine state and is filled with wondrous aquatic life forms.  This is a hand-on, feet-wet program. No open-toed shoes or bare feet permitted. Old sneakers, water shoes or rain boots are recommended.  All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

In addition, the historic grist mill will be open for tours from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for Miller’s Heritage Day.

Broad-Winged Hawkwatch at Rocky Ridge

On Saturday, September 21, 2019 there will be a Broad-winged Hawkwatch from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rocky Ridge County Park.  Park in the Oak Timbers Parking Lot, and meet at the North Overlook.

Join birdwatcher Randy P. at the Hawkwatch platform. Learn about migrating fall raptors and practice identifying them in flight.  If we’re lucky, we could catch “kettles” of hundreds of migrating Broad-winged Hawks.  Bring binoculars (limited number of loaners available), field guide, lawn chair, and dress for the weather.

Family Campout Night at Rocky Ridge County Park  

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will host a Family Campout Night at Rocky Ridge County Park on Friday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m. to Saturday, September 28 at 9:00 a.m. Meet at the Hidden Laurel Picnic Area, Pheasant and Screech Owl pavilion.

Bring the whole family, tent, and sleeping bags, to snooze under the stars on the woods-encircled sports field at Rocky Ridge.  Explore trails, the natural play area, fitness path, and more. Join staff for a twilight wildlife hike! Afterwards, participants will gather ‘round the campfire.  Bring marshmallows and/or hotdogs for a nighttime snack. Additional s’mores ingredients will be provided.  An optional light breakfast will be provided until 8am. In the event of severe weather, sleeping may occur under a pavilion.

$10/person, children 2 and under free, Pre-registration is required by calling 717-428-1961.
