PennDOT to Replace Route 74 Bridge between Dover and West York
Carlisle Road span over Little Conewago Creek to be restricted to two 11-ft lanes
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that on Tuesday, January 23, its contractor will close one half of the bridge that carries Route 74 over the Little Conewago Creek and begin a project to remove and replace the existing bridge at the West Manchester-Dover Township Line in York County.
PennDOT advises travelers that the Route 74 bridge will be restricted to a single 11-foot lane in each direction through April 2019. This portion of Route 74, locally known as Carlisle Road, averages more than 21,000 vehicles traveled daily.
PennDOT awarded the $3,002,448 contract to Kinsley Construction, Inc. of York, Pennsylvania. Work includes removing and replacing the existing 69-year-old structurally deficient two-span bridge, widen and reconstruct the approach pavement, upgrade drainage, new guiderail, signs and pavement markings.
The existing bridge was built in 1949. Once the span is replaced and the roadway is restored to unrestricted traffic, it will be removed from the list of structurally deficient bridges.
