Dover High School Students get Real Life Skills on the Job at Dover Township

Dover High School has long offered seniors the opportunity to work in the community and with local business and government agencies.  These opportunities are offered through their Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.  Under the current CTE program, there are opportunities for job shadowing and internships.  DASD offers the following CTE Programs:  Accounting, Business Office Management, Marketing, Commercial Advertising Art, Agriculture General, Horticulture, Ag-Mechanics, Geospatial Technology, Computer Science, Engineering Technology and Diversified Occupations.
Here at Dover Township, we have been fortunate to work with students in both the Accounting and Geospatial Technology programs.  Students have had the opportunity to see their work applied in the field.  Geospatial students have spent time collecting data and mapping that data about our roads and utility systems.  Accounting interns have been exposed to payroll, accounts receivable/payable, utility billing and the budget process.
We currently have two Accounting Interns, Jay’La Bates and Gina Strine, working part time in our office.  They are both seniors with a desire to attend college.  Jay’La plans to attend college in Maryland and will pursue a degree in mathematics or accounting.  Gina plans to attend college in Pennsylvania and is looking to pursue a degree in teaching or accounting.  Additionally, Class of 2019 graduate, Brooke Scearce stayed with us last spring through the summer part time and recently took a fulltime position in the front office as our Administrative Clerk.
This experience has been a rewarding one for the students and our staff.  If your business has an interest in obtaining an intern from Dover High School, please contact Charles Benton, the Director of Career Education and Academic Services at phone (717-292-3600 ext. 10105) or email at Cbenton@DoverSD.org to find out how you can benefit from these programs and  by giving our Dover students a Real Life Experience!
